“Look at the horse, how majestic, how beautiful. It is free spirited, it moves so elegantly, so
effortlessly. It’s strong and powerful, at the same time gentle, docile, even modest. All this
attributes need to be preserved in the education and training of this amazing creature. ”

● Born 1965
● Started riding ponys at the age of 12. No lessons, just: hang on to your horse style:
● At the age 16 I had my first loan horse. With her I did the regional dressage licence. I still
had no lessons. I learned by watching others taking lessons and trying it out
autodidactlicly.

How and why I came to riding in Légèreté with Philippe Karl

Out of frustration, like so many of us. In my case not being able to collect a good quality
horse (everyone said the mare wasn't good enough) and bring her to a higher level. So I
started looking for other solutions, such as the old Californian style and horsemanship. But
my heart mainly beats for dressage.

When I got invited as a spectator to a clinic with Bea Borelle I was hooked. Coming from
conventional riding, I didn't understand everything, but all the horses were quiet,
understanding ther jobs, all the riders had nice seats, quiet legs and hands, and there was no
fighting. So the horses told me that this is a good way of riding.
Of course I did not yet understand how ingenious and wholistic the concept is. The horses are
not confused with contradictory aids. One thing leads to another and does not change during
the whole education. It just becomes more refined. Yes it’s easy for the horse. But it’s quite
complex for the rider.
It also speaks for the principles of the Ecole de Légèreté that every ordinary horse, of every
breed can be trained to higher level, respecting it’s nature in terms of physique, character, and
temperament.
Thank you Mr. Philippe Karl for sharing your endless knowledge with us!
